How many CFM do I need per room?
There is no single room-CFM number
A room may need supply air for heating/cooling, outdoor air for ventilation, return air for circulation, and exhaust for a specific use. Those requirements can overlap, but they are not the same calculation. Start by naming the air stream and the purpose.
Use room volume for a volumetric estimate
For a 12 ft by 15 ft by 9 ft room, volume is 1,620 ft³. At a stated 4 ACH planning basis, the conversion is 1,620 × 4 ÷ 60 = 108 CFM. This is not a default recommendation; it is only the flow corresponding to the stated basis.
What must be checked before using the result
